Dayton & Second Stop Moved

Due to construction at the water treatment facility, the stop at Dayton and 2nd Ave has been temporarily relocated one block east, mid-block between 2nd Ave S and 3rd Ave S. There should be a temporary stop delineator at the location.

This closure has been extended through February 2010.

Routes 110, 115, 116, 131, 404 and 870 serve this location.

Notes on Today's Hearing

If you are attending the hearing at 3 p.m. today, Feb. 4, at the Future of Flight Museum, 8415 Paine Field Blvd., here's what to expect:

The hearing is first on the agenda. If you want to speak, please "take a number" (literally - this will help things flow)
To give everyone a chance to speak, you'll be limited to 3 minutes
If you have a question you want answered, see staff who will be set up outside the hearing room. The hearing itself is for board members to listen, not respond to public comment
Information displays will be set up outside the hearing room. Staff will be available there to answer questions and discuss the proposals
If you don't have time to wait for your chance to speak, you can have your comment videotaped for the board. The video station will be set up outside the hearing room

The Proposed Service Changes page has been updated with new FAQs and other background materials posted in the sidebox at the top.

Metro, Sound Transit Changes Feb. 6

King County Metro Transit and Sound Transit begin their winter service changes on Saturday, Feb. 6. There are routing and/or schedule changes to over 80 Metro routes and 14 Sound Transit routes.

Sound Transit service from Snohomish County will serve fewer stops on 5th Avenue.

Southbound Route 510, 511 and 513 stops will be at 5th and: Pine Street, University Street, Marion Street, and Jefferson Street.

Stops have been consolidated to provide faster service in downtown Seattle, consistent with other limited-stop service on downtown Seattle streets.

Presidents' Day Service Changes

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 15, local and University District service remain on regular schedules. Due to lower demand for commuter service, however, some Community Transit routes to downtown Seattle will have reduced service.

Routes with canceled trips are: 402, 405, 408, 410, 411, 412, 413, 415, 416, 421, 435, 477.

Trips that will not operate are marked with the letter “H” on route schedules online and in Bus Plus schedule books. Four additional trips should have been marked with an “H” designation in Bus Plus: Route 415 at 6:40 a.m. and Route 477 at 6:30 a.m., 6:55 a.m. and 4:53 p.m.

The RideStore and Customer Information Services phone lines will be closed on Feb. 15 for the holiday.

Seattle: Olive & 6th, 4th & Cherry Closed

Due to construction, the bus stop on eastbound Olive & 6th Avenue will be closed starting Monday Feb. 1 and continuing until further notice. Metro will not be placing any temporary stops to compensate for closure of this stop.

The bus stop at 4th & Cherry remains closed until March.

Feb. 4 Public Hearing on Changes

A public hearing on the service and fare change proposals is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 4 at the 3 p.m. Board of Directors meeting, now taking place at the Future of Flight, 8415 Paine Field Blvd. in Mukilteo. People who are transit-dependent can call (425) 353-7433 or (800) 562-1375 for assistance with transportation options to the site.

The meeting site was changed to accommodate those wishing to testify before the board in a facility of adequate size.

All written and video-taped comments collected during public meetings in January will be made available to the board.

The public comment period remains open through Feb. 8. The board will not act on the proposal in February; a vote is expected at the March meeting.

Seattle Bike Policy Changes Feb. 6

Effective Feb. 6, bicycles may be loaded or unloaded at any stop in downtown Seattle. Previously, bike-bus usage has been limited in the downtown “ride free area” to certain hours and stops. The new policy is a pilot project by King County Metro and the City of Seattle.

All Community Transit, Sound Transit and King County Metro buses will allow bike passengers at any stop.

Always make sure the coach operator sees you before you step in front of the bus, and please be careful not to step into traffic when loading or unloading your bicycle.

Get ORCA at Roger's Market

Roger's Market in Mountlake Terrace is the first retail outlet in Snohomish County to offer the ORCA card. Roger's customer service staff can revalue people's existing cards, and also have a limited number of new adult ORCA cards to distribute.

Bridge Construction Impacts Lynnwood P & R

The City of Lynnwood is working with Washington State Department of Transpoortation to construct a pedestrian-bicycle bridge across 44th Avenue for the Interurban Trail.

The project begins in the northeast corner of the Lynnwood Transit Center park & ride. It is scheduled to last 100 days, and is likely to impact 10 parking spaces next to the trail in the northeast corner of the lot (only during the project), and to temporarily modify vehicular traffic circulation in that area.

Construction is expected to begin this week.

Seattle Stops Update

The bus stop at 4th & Seneca is now open (effective Friday afternoon, Jan. 22)

The bus stop at 4th & Cherry will close again starting Monday, Jan. 25 and continuing until further notice.

The bus stop at Olive & Terry will reopen Monday Jan. 25 at 10 a.m., after the morning commute.

The Route 510 and 511 stop at 5th & Cherry will continue to be closed Jan. 25-29 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Route 477 Detour Jan. 25-27

Due to the closure of 48th Avenue W between 212th Street and 216th Street SW, Route 477 will be on reroute Jan. 25-27 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The closure affects two southbound and two northbound trips.

During the road closure, please board or leave your bus at one of the following locations:

Southbound to Seattle: Temporary stop on westbound 212th Street SW, just west of 48th Place W.
Northbound to Brier: Temporary stop on eastbound 212th St SW, just east of 48th Avenue W.

The reroute may be extended more days, if necessary.

Daytime work at 5th & Cherry

The Route 510 and 511 stop at 5th & Cherry will continue to be closed Jan. 25-29 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The stop is open during the morning and afternoon commute times. Contractors are working on the street mid-day only.

When the stop is closed, please use zones at either Marion or Jefferson.

Deadline for No-Fee ORCA Cards Extended

ORCA smart cards, which are gaining popularity among Puget Sound transit riders, will now be available with no fee through Feb. 28. Starting March 1, 2010 a standard adult or youth ORCA card will cost $5. The promotion had been scheduled to end on Jan. 31.

The “blank” ORCA cards available with no fee through February must be loaded with e-purse value and/or a monthly pass. The extended no-fee promotion should help ease the transition to ORCA and reduce temporary high volumes of activity at customer service centers. The arrival of ORCA means that most transit riders can choose to never visit a customer service office again, with a one-time exception for people who must submit required documents for Regional Reduced Fare Permits or provide proof of age for Senior or Youth discounts. Adult-fare customers can avoid long lines during the transition by buying cards online or at ticket vending machines.

Riders who use a Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP) are reminded that there is no charge for converting to the ORCA card. The best time to obtain an ORCA RRFP card at customer service offices is between the 10th and 20th of each month. First-time RRFP customers who qualify for the reduced fare must still pay an initial fee of $3.

Sounder Service Options

Northline Sounder and Amtrak RailPlus service between Seattle and Everett will not be available on the following days due a mudslide south of Edmonds:

Tuesday, Jan 19 for the afternoon commute
Wednesday, Jan 20, for the entire day
Thursday, Jan 21 for the morning commute only*

Afternoon Back-up Bus Service:

Seattle - Edmonds: Board Community Transit Route 404 at 4th Ave S and S Jackson St for service to the Edmonds Station. Extra Community Transit buses will be available to reduce overcrowding (departing at 4:35 and 5:05 p.m.)

Seattle - Mukilteo: Two additional trips directly to Mukilteo by star Line Charters will depart from 4th & Jackson to coincide with the 4:05 PM & 4:33 PM Sounder trips . Passengers for the later trains will need to take Community Transit Route 417 from 4th & Jackson. Please board Community Transit Route 417 at 4th Ave S and S Jackson St for service to the Mukilteo Station.

Seattle - Everett: Chartered bus service will be available at 4th Ave S and S Jackson for direct service to the Everett Station. Riders may also board ST Express Route 510 at 4th Ave S and S Jackson St for service to Everett.

Morning Back-up Bus Service

Everett - Seattle: Board ST Express Route 510 at the Everett Station (Bay C1) for service to Seattle

Mukilteo - Seattle: Board Route 417 at SR 525 and Front St for service to Seattle

Edmonds - Seattle: Board Community Transit Route 404 at Railroad Ave S and Main St or CT Route 416 at 3rd Ave S and James St for service to Seattle. Additional trips on Route 404 will depart on the usual Sounder schedule.

*Depending upon weather conditions and the severity of the mudslide, northline Sounder and RailPlus service may not be available for the afternoon commute on Thursday, Jan 21. Please monitor www.soundtransit.org for updates before beginning your commute.

Seattle Olive & Terry Closed Jan. 19-22

Due to construction in downtown Seattle, the bus stop at Olive Way & Terry Ave will be closed continuously from Tuesday, Jan. 19 until after the morning commute on Monday, Jan. 25. The stop will reopen at 10 a.m. Monday.

Passengers will need to board or deboard at the stop at Olive & 6th.

This closure affects morning service on Routes 406, 412, 413, 416, 421, 425, 435, 477 and afternoon service on Route 424, as well as Route 414 and Sound Transit Routes 510 and 511.

Reduced Service for Jan. 18 Holiday

Local service remains on regular schedule on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 18. Due to lower demand for commuter service, however, Route 855 will be the only University District route that is operating that day and some Community Transit routes to downtown Seattle will have reduced service.

The RideStore and Customer Information Services also will be closed on the holiday. Both will return to regular hours on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Vandalism Forces Shelter Removal

Due to repeated vandalism, the shelters at southbound Alderwood Mall Parkway & 184th Street SW and southbound Highway 99 & 208th Street SW have been removed. Community Transit replaced the shelters with bus stop seats so that customer will at least have a place to sit while waiting. Vandalism is a crime that hurts everyone. If you see someone damaging transit property, please call 911 immediately.

4th and Seneca Stop to Close for Two Weeks

Effective Monday, Jan. 11

The 4^th and Seneca stop in downtown Seattle will be closed for up to two weeks. Also, the 4^th and Cherry stop in downtown Seattle will reopen on Jan. 11.

This closure will affect all Community Transit rouotes that operate on 4^th Avenue and northbound Sound Transit Routes 510, 511 and 513.

Stop changes are the result of major construction work on Fourth Avenue. King County Metro is responsible for posting rider information at closed stops, and for notifying Community Transit of changes.
